Q1 2026 Employees of the Quarter: Meet James Smith and Billy Nowlin

Written by Team Citadel | May 28, 2026

At Citadel Security USA, our officers are the first line of defense for the people, property, and operations our clients trust us to protect. Every quarter, we take time to recognize the officers whose work goes beyond the post — the ones who set the tone for what Citadel professionalism looks like in practice.

This quarter, we are proud to recognize two officers who exemplify that standard: James Smith of our Midwest Region, posted at Swedish Match in Owensboro, Kentucky, and William “Billy” Nowlin of our West Region, serving on Denver Metro Patrol.

James Smith — Midwest Region | Swedish Match, Owensboro, KY

James has been a steady presence at the Swedish Match facility, where his calm demeanor, attention to detail, and consistency on shift have made him a trusted figure with both his fellow officers and the client team. Site supervisors describe him as the officer they do not have to think about — every log entry filed, every patrol completed, every visitor processed cleanly and without incident.

What put James over the top this quarter was not routine. During an early-morning shift in February, he identified an access-control irregularity that could easily have gone unnoticed and escalated it through the proper chain — quickly, quietly, and in line with site protocols. The client called it the kind of vigilance they contract Citadel for.

James does not seek the spotlight. That is part of what makes this recognition matter.

William “Billy” Nowlin — West Region | Denver Metro Patrol

Billy covers a wide patrol footprint across the Denver metro, which means his office is a marked vehicle and his shift is whatever weather Colorado decides to hand him. Through one of the snowiest stretches we have seen in years, Billy’s response times stayed sharp, his reports stayed thorough, and his demeanor with clients stayed professional — even at 3 a.m. in a parking lot in single-digit temperatures.

What stands out about Billy is the way he treats each site like it is his only one. Property managers across his route have specifically asked for him by name. That is uncommon in patrol work. That is earned.

His regional manager put it simply: Billy makes the rest of the team better.

To James and Billy — thank you.

You set the bar this quarter. We are proud to call you Citadel.
