Citadel started in 2007, founded and led by U.S. military veterans who believed security could be done with more discipline and more accountability than the industry norm. Eighteen years later, that approach protects more than 400 active clients across the Midwest and beyond. The growth is something we're proud of. How we grew is the part that actually matters.

Plenty of companies expand by lowering the bar — taking every account, stretching teams thin, and letting quality erode quietly as the footprint gets bigger. The result is a brand that means something different at every location. We set out to do the opposite: grow only in a way that lets every client, new or longtime, get the same standard of protection. One officer-training bar. One escalation standard. One level of attention, whether you're our newest account or one we've held for a decade.

That discipline traces directly back to the company's roots. A veteran-led organization tends to carry certain habits into the civilian world — clear standards, real accountability, and a sense that the mission matters more than the individual. Those aren't slogans on a wall here; they're the operating system. It's why the 400th client gets the same Citadel the first one did.

Being rooted in community is the other half of the story. Growth, for us, hasn't meant becoming a faceless regional vendor. It's meant adding local leaders, supporting the communities our officers come from and protect, and recognizing the people who do the work. The recent expansion of our Midwest footprint has been about deepening that local presence, not diluting it.

Eighteen years and 400-plus clients is a milestone worth marking. But it reads better as a starting point than a finish line. The standard that got us here is the same one we intend to hold as we keep growing — because the day that standard slips is the day the number stops meaning anything.
