Every season carries its own risk profile, and summer quietly stacks several of them at once. Longer days, more people moving around, vacation schedules, and construction in full swing all combine to make the warmer months a busy stretch for property crime. The good news: most of it is predictable, which means most of it is preventable.
The exposures cluster in a few places. Vacation season leaves homes, offices, and even whole facilities emptier than usual, and an empty property on a predictable schedule is an opportunity. Construction ramps up, and active job sites full of equipment and materials are a well-known target after hours. Events and heavy foot traffic bring crowds that need managing. And heat itself drives more incidents, from trespassing to confrontations.
The pattern underneath all of it is the same one that shows up year-round: risk concentrates in the hours and places where no one is watching. Summer just widens those windows.
Getting ahead of it isn't complicated. Pressure-test your after-hours coverage before you need it. Tighten access on properties that sit empty. Make sure vacant or seasonal assets are patrolled and monitored, not just locked. And if you manage sites that swing busy in summer, construction, events, retail, plan the coverage now, not after the first incident.
A little foresight in June saves a lot of cost in August. The threats are seasonal and repeatable. So is the protection.
